We had breakfast with the girls we'd made friends with at our hostel (Marie from Brisbane, Taffee from Thailand and Fanny from Belgium).
The four of us (minus the Thai girl) went on the tour together. The first stop was the lookout at Pigeon valley, where Pia and I had been the previous day.
Lake Nar where we made a pitstop on the way to the underground city.
Pia and our new friend Fanny.
Next was the Kaymakli Underground City. It was used during 200-300 BC. Our guide told us that 20,000 Christians seemed refuge in the underground city at a minimum of a few weeks to a maximum of 2 months at a time. 6 levels are open to the public, the lowest point being 60m underground. Numerous ventilation shafts provide fresh oxygen throughout the city.
Pia lying in one of the grave spots in the underground cemetery. Keeping the deceased underground wasn't a sustainable option as people would get diseases, so they kept them there for 1 day then buried them above ground.
Our small tour group from around the world (4 Aussies, 1 Belgium, 2 Koreans, 2 Spanish and 1 Singaporean)
On the way to lunch we stopped by another church in the valley, learning lots of new things thanks to our tour guide.
After lunch, we drove to Selime, famous for providing the inspiration behind the very first Star Wars films in the 70's.
After the tour we hung around back at the hostel with Fanny's friends from Australia who had checked in while we were out. We ate dinner together before Pia and I took our overnight bus to Antalya.
