Day 28: exploring Rome

(31/7) We spent the morning on a free walking tour we'd signed up for with a very friendly tour guide called Chris (from the US).

He took us to a few different sites around the city whilst explaining the history.

The Panthenon!

..and finished the tour outside the Vatican City. From there, we continued wandering by ourselves.

We somehow ended up at the colloseum..

And then made our way through a few random churches..

Onto ruins..

And finally the Palace.

That evening, we did the 'Colloseum Pub Crawl' where we met people from all over the world (Sweden, England, Greece, South Africa, US and Australia!).

Day 27: Roma!

Our flight was unfortunately delayed 2 hours but we finally arrived at Rome Airport at 2:30AM. We spent the morning catching up on some sleep then went shopping in the main city area.

For dinner, we went to a recommended restaurant where we had our first italian meal, pizza!

Day 26: Athens

We were up bright and early to make the most of our one day in Athens.

First stop, the royal gardens

Then Hadrians Gate.

We walked up the hill towards the Paethenon (this was the view halfway)

The Ampitheatre: really interesting as the theatre itself is so old but the stage set is such a stark modern contrast.

The view from the top of the Theatre.

Acropolis under restoration as per usual.

Corny tourists 101.

We walked back via the museum.

Our final stop was a late lunch (me: spanakopita, Pia: pizza) and a traditional dessert before checking out and heading to the airport for our late night flight to Rome!

Day 25: North to Naoussa

We took a bus to the northern tip of Paros to a old fishing village called Naoussa.

Then headed to this little cove to spend the afternoon swimming.

Once we returned to Parikia, we took a ferry to Athens, our last stop on our Greek adventure.

Day 24

Exhausted from the 30kms of bike riding the precious day, we slept in and hung around our hotel, swimming in the pool and relaxing.

In the evening we went out and got gyros and roasted corn to eat at the waters edge watching the sunset.

Day 23: Day trip to Anti Paros

We caught this little boat early in the morning to a small island off the west coast of Paros called Antiparos.

Shocking photograph but on the way we saw hundreds of kite surfers (the little dots that look like birds)

We hired bikes and decided to ride around the island as it is relatively flat.

We didn't however factor in the wind, the heat, a giant windy road and broken bike gears into our ride..

15kms later, We stopped at the caves of antiparos.

And walked down 440 stairs..

The view from outside the caves.

We rode down the hill and found the nearest beach where we spent the afternoon cooling off before our excruciating ride back to the town centre to return the bikes and ferry back to Paros.

Trying hats on at the market street while waiting for the ferry.
