Day 31: Off to Perugia!

We left Rome early to take a train to Perugia, the capital of Umbria (the central area of Italy). We had decided to try out Couchsurfing, a site designed to help travellers out, by linking people who didn't mind hosting them on their couches or free beds in return for good company. (That's right, free accommodation!) We'd already spent the day with a random Turkish family, slept on the floor of an airport and drank homemade wine with a Greek repairman so how bad could it be!

Turns out, couchsurfing is a genius invention. We made our way to Marcus' place (our host), a cute house in the centre of Perugia, and was greeted by his niece Zoe, visiting from California. Marcus himself was away with his two kids and we wouldn't meet them until the next day but Zoe entertained us and took us out that evening.

Exploring the streets of perugia.

The amazing view from the edge of the town, overlooking the beautiful Tuscan landscape.

Our delicious dinner at the local pizza restaurant (we were back plenty more times!)

Having a laugh with Zoe after dinner.
